🌱 Dirt: Yeah nah yeah, it’s really wet eh.
Divine Wind and Heckle and Ride
The Rotorua Trail Trust Build Crew went and gave these trails a tickle up after all the love they have gotten since their official opening. Honestly it is so great to see so many riders out there enjoying these trails guilt free. Big shout out to the rippers sending it and posting up some AMAZING content 🙌. Shout out to “Aloewerk” for their fantastic videos of him and his buddies sending it on the newly opened trails 🎥. Absolutely ripping it buddy! 🔥
Te Poaka, Apumoana, Mahana, Whaki, Sidewinder
Rotorua Trails Trust can’t stop the rain, but we can prepare the trails by blowing the debris off them so it doesn't block the drains 🍂💨.
The trail crew got a lot of strange looks, head shakes and direct questions as to “why are you blowing the trails if they are about to get stuff blown on them anyway?”
Here’s why: when it rains, anything on the trail (pine needles, leaves, loose dirt) will flow with the water into the drains…and block them 🌧️. Just like how you need to clear your gutters and drains at your house BEFORE it rains, we have to do the same with the trails! It is just that the gutters in the forest are a bit bigger, wider and a few hundred kilometers longer 🌲🌀.
So now you know!

Corridor rebuild
Huge thanks to the trail adopter for seeing the forecast and getting out there to preemptively clear the drains and vege from the trail 🙌. Reckon that will make a massive difference in the coming days!
Bunny Jugs 2
The adopter put in another massive 5+ hours on Bunny Jugs 2 this past week 💪. Incredible stuff! Honestly this trail is getting so much traffic now the shuttle pick up has moved to the end of Bunny Jugs 2 🚐. It is great to know that this trail is getting all the love it deserves ❤️. Thank you so much trail adopter, you are a legend! (and so is your trail dog 🐶🙂)
Hemo Gorge trail
A fantastically timed tickle up from the trail adopter 🛠️. The work previously done by Mountain Bike Rotorua over the summer has held up super well, and the trail surface and drains are now in good order too, thanks to the adopter. Legend! 🌟
Tumeke
Some really insightful words from the trail adopter after their work last weekend:
“Fixed some of the worst corners/ruts/drops this morning. I was a bit shocked to see signs of accelerated deterioration, compared to previous years. Probably because of the extra shuttle traffic. Good thing more people get to enjoy the track but it's a lot more work, and it's not even winter yet” 😬
We LOVE that Tuemeke is getting more traffic — it is a cracking good trail 💥. But with Rotorua's super soft hero dirt, all that extra traffic really increases the amount of maintenance a trail needs to stay in good shape 🔧.
That's why private bike parks charge per ride — the more riders, the more maintenance required. So if you are a regular rider, donate regularly to keep the trails you love running mint 💚
Mossy Loop + Trail
Love the work this trail adopter does out there on the Mossy Loop, picking up debris from the trail 🍃. And this is something we can all do to help maintain the forest. Pick up ferns and debris and throw it off the trail. Easy.
If we all just biffed a dozen fronds off the trail each ride or walk, rather than riding over them, it would help a lot 🌿. Riding over ferns smushes them into the trails, they break down the trail surface and lead to erosion. The cheeky fronds also stop water and debris from flowing off the trail, and as you probably well know, they are slippy buggers too eh! Be a good ‘un and throw a few fronds next ride! 💚
Weather Watch
⚠️ High Wind Warning – Whakarewarewa Forest 🌲🌬️🌧️
Strong winds and rain = likely windfall. Watch for fallen trees, big branches, and trail debris.
🚴♂️🚶♀️ Ride and walk with care.

🔁 First lap? Go slow, flick off the small stuff, and help keep it safe out there.
🪚🌿 Rotorua Trails Trust will be out there clearing the damage — but chainsaws need fuel and cleanup costs add up.
